HENSOLDT and 21strategies collaborate on next generation AI for defense systems

Sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT and AI company 21stategies agree to a strategic collaboration. The goal is to jointly drive the development of the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI) for defense systems.

To this end, HENSOLDT is participating in a strategic 21 financing round

The technology player of the defense industry meets the “third wave” AI professionals: with sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT and AI company 21stategies, two of Europe’s leading innovators in their industries agree on a strategic collaboration. The goal is to jointly drive the development of the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI) for defense systems. To this end, HENSOLDT is participating in a strategic 21 financing round, which will give the cooperation a solid foundation. Artificial intelligence is critical to the performance of many of HENSOLDT’s products. The agreed partnership will take HENSOLDT’s AI competencies to a new level. Because with new so-called third wave AI approaches, such as Cognitive AI, decisions in combat situations and reaction to unknown threats can be decisively accelerated. In addition, interesting synergies arise from the combination with HENSOLDT’s existing Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) competencies, which will augment AI performance in the future.

“We need to master AI in its full scope”

“As a technology company in the defense industry, we have special requirements for AI,” says Celia Pelaz, Board Member and Chief Strategy Officer at HENSOLDT. “To optimally enable highly complex defense systems, we need to master AI in its full scope. To that end, we develop many AI competencies internally and complement them in a very meaningful way by working with specialist partners such as 21Strategy. As a strategic investor, we are able To provide the company with significant support in the defense sector and to benefit from further targeted and rapid development of technology.Because we at HENSOLDT are convinced: The defense systems of tomorrow will be created at the interface of artificial intelligence with deep knowledge of the application scenarios of our customers. The minority stake in 21 Strategy is the first of its kind in HENSOLDT. This is fully in line with our policy of working with young and dynamic high-tech companies with strong potential for cooperation.

GhostPlay project of the Technology and Digitization Research Center of the German Armed Forces

21 trains next-generation AI strategies for optimal decision-making at machine speed, enabling users to quickly and efficiently make and execute tactical decisions in complex and uncertain situations. The two companies are already working closely together on the GhostPlay project of the Technology and Digitization Research Center of the German Armed Forces (DTEC.Bw). GhostPlay creates a high-performance simulated environment (= Ghost) in order to develop decision-making actions taking into account different criteria (= Play) by means of AI and interaction with opponents with different performance profiles. As a provider of sensor solutions and expert in defense systems for all branches of the armed forces, HENSOLDT is in a special position in the market, producing large amounts of data that play a critical role in customer situational awareness and defense capabilities.

21 Strategies has already worked in military research labs in the past

The technological approach of 21 complements HENSOLDT’s AI competency strategy and enhances its performance profile in the areas of sensor management and cognitive electronic warfare. This includes, among other things, the development of distributed and multistatic sensing technology. “Team 21 Strategy has already worked in military research laboratories in the past, and has deployed in the third wave of AI to hedge currencies and commodities — these days, as you can see, more than ever an issue of national security and preparedness. Through successful collaboration with one Among the most innovative representatives of the defense industry, we are once again making our suite of AI technologies available to defense as well.In doing so, it is our great concern to deliver AI systems that meet our customers’ requirements in terms of legal affairs and ethical AI compliance. Thus, you will benefit HENSOLDT also leverages our expertise in value-based engineering,” says Yvonne Hofstetter, CEO and co-founder of 21strategies.
